Ultimate Team is built around constant change. Every year introduces stronger cards, new mechanics, and fresh metas that push older squads into obscurity. Players who dominated FIFA 22 often seem outdated compared to the elite Team of the Season and promo cards available in FC 26. But one question remained: could a legendary FIFA 22 squad still compete at the highest level of modern Ultimate Team?
To find out, a FUT Champions challenge was created. Starting with a 12-0 record, the goal was to recreate one of FIFA 22’s most iconic teams and attempt to finish Weekend League with a perfect 15-0 record. With only three matches remaining, there was no margin for error.
Rebuilding a FIFA 22 Classic
The squad featured many of the stars that defined FIFA 22. Some players were still available through Icons or FIFA 26 Coins, while others required replacements due to availability issues.
In goal stood Edwin van der Sar, once considered one of the best goalkeepers in Ultimate Team. His height, reflexes, and consistency made him a favorite in FIFA 22.
The defense featured Kyle Walker and Nuno Mendes at fullback. Walker’s pace and strength remained valuable even years later, while Mendes’ Team of the Season card brought elite speed and defensive ability. In central defense, Marquinhos and Antonio Rüdiger formed a reliable partnership capable of dealing with modern attackers.
Although the back line lacked some of FC 26’s newest playstyle advantages, it still possessed the pace and physicality required to compete.
Midfield Quality
The midfield showcased some of the most complete players ever seen in Ultimate Team.
Lothar Matthäus acted as the engine of the team. His ability to defend, pass, and contribute offensively made him just as effective in FC 26 as he had been years earlier.
Kevin De Bruyne provided creativity and elite passing, helping link midfield with attack. Cristiano Ronaldo was also included, although he naturally operated in more advanced positions once matches began.
Together, the trio offered balance, control, and attacking threat from every area of the pitch.
An Attack Filled with Legends
The attack was where the squad truly stood out.
Kylian Mbappé remained one of the most dangerous players in Ultimate Team history. His pace, dribbling, and finishing continued to trouble defenders regardless of the game version.
Alongside him was Pelé, whose combination of creativity and finishing made him one of the most complete Icons ever released.
Lionel Messi completed the frontline, providing elite dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring ability.
With Ronaldo, Messi, Pelé, and Mbappé all on the pitch together, the squad featured a collection of attacking talent few teams could match.
The Road to 15-0
The first match nearly ended the challenge immediately.
After a disastrous start, the FIFA 22 squad found itself trailing 3-0. Defensive mistakes and poor decisions threatened to ruin the experiment before it truly began.
Then the stars stepped up.
Ronaldo sparked the comeback with a crucial goal. Messi began creating chances, while Pelé consistently found dangerous positions between defenders. The team clawed its way back to 4-4 before eventually taking the lead and securing victory.
The comeback pushed the record to 13-0 and proved that elite attackers can still overcome difficult situations.
The second match was far more comfortable. Mbappé opened the scoring, Ronaldo continued his excellent form, and Pelé added another impressive finish. Despite occasional defensive lapses, the attacking quality proved overwhelming.
The victory moved the team to 14-0, leaving just one game between the squad and a perfect Weekend League.
The Final Match
Everything came down to a single game.
Messi opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, but the opponent responded quickly. The match turned into a back-and-forth battle filled with momentum swings, equalizers, and constant pressure.
Mbappé restored the lead before the opponent fought back once again.
Then Ronaldo took over.
Time after time, he appeared in dangerous positions, converting chances and punishing defensive mistakes. His finishing proved decisive during the most important moments of the match.
As the game approached its conclusion, Messi added another goal to secure the result.
The final whistle blew.
15-0.
Rank One achieved.
The FIFA 22 squad had successfully conquered FC 26.
The Standout Performers
Several players played crucial roles throughout the challenge.
Cristiano Ronaldo was undoubtedly the star of the run. His goals consistently arrived in high-pressure situations, and his finishing repeatedly changed matches.
Messi provided creativity and composure whenever the team needed it most. His dribbling and vision allowed the attack to function smoothly against strong opponents.
Pelé delivered a perfect balance of playmaking and goal scoring, contributing several match-winning moments.
Mbappé remained as dominant as ever, using his pace and movement to stretch defenses and create opportunities.
Meanwhile, Matthäus quietly controlled the midfield, providing the balance necessary for the attacking stars to shine.
Disappointing Rewards
Despite achieving a perfect 15-0 record and earning Rank One rewards, the packs failed to deliver anything truly special.
Player picks included usable options such as Luka Modrić, but there were no elite pulls. The tradable Team of the Season pack also offered limited value, resulting in a disappointing return for such a difficult achievement.
However, the challenge was never really about rewards.
It was about answering a question.
FIFA 22 vs FC 26
The experiment demonstrated that while Ultimate Team constantly evolves, truly elite players remain effective regardless of the year.
Modern cards may have stronger stats, advanced playstyles, and newer mechanics, but qualities such as pace, positioning, finishing, and football intelligence never lose their value.
A team built around Ronaldo, Messi, Pelé, Mbappé, Matthäus, De Bruyne, and Van der Sar was always going to be competitive. The fact that it completed a flawless 15-0 FUT Champions run against modern FIFA 26 Coins for sale squads only reinforced how special those players were.
More than anything, the challenge served as a celebration of one of Ultimate Team’s greatest eras. Years after dominating FIFA 22, its legendary stars proved they could still compete at the highest level.
The rewards may have disappointed, but the result did not. For one Weekend League, FIFA 22 returned—and it conquered FC 26 once again.
